This summer, Thursdays are all about experience! Exploring historical points of interest in and around the Barbourville community is what makes UB Thursdays great! Trips to Cumberland Falls State Park, SomerSplash Water Park, EKU Challenge Course and DollyWood Theme Park will make summer Thursdays special. The 2008 Summer will hold participants attention with the following Thursday offerings! May 29 - "Cumberland Falls State Park" Students and staff will hike to the Falls from DuPont Lodge. After returning from the hike to the Falls, the students will have dinner at the restaurant within DuPont Lodge. June 5 - "The EKU Challenge Course" Students will participate in various team building activities while at the Challenge Course. Those that dare can attempt to climb to the top of the climbing tower using various methods. While there the participants will take a break for dinner (picnic style) while earning a well deserved rest. June 12 - "SomerSplash Water Park" ....nothing like cooling off in the old water hole. The students will enjoy a day of relaxation and fun after a rigorous week of academically challenging classes.
June 19 - " DollyWood Theme Park" Unique as its namesake Dolly Parton, Dollywood theme park is a one-of-a-kind Smoky Mountain Family Adventure! Spanning 125 acres and nestled in the lush foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, near Gatlinburg. Dollywood's spectacular Tennessee setting provides the perfect backdrop for a variety of amusement park rides and attractions.
June26 - "Karaoke Night / Music Trivia- Students will have the opportunity to team up and perform their favorite musical song. Their talents will be included in the "Upward Bound's Greatest Hits" CD that each student will receive at the conclusion of the nights' activities. The students will also compete in pop culture trivia, music trivia, team challenge games and other activities.
