What happens from September to May

During the Academic Year, new participants are oriented into the program while veteran Upward Bound participants continue to receive the support they need to continue to be successful in their high school classes.  Advisors visit participants on a weekly basis at each school and staff design monthly Saturday programs to meet student needs.  Saturday events are not only informative, but usually fun as well.

Union College's Upward Bound program allows students to check-out laptop computers for two week intervals in order to help provide technological access to all Upward Bound participants.  After-school tutoring sessions are being planned and the staff eventually hopes to offer online-tutoring services as well.

During the Academic Year, students are responsible for the following:

• Attending all meetings at school and on Union’s campus.

• Enrolling in 4 college preparatory courses including a math and science course every year.

• Maintaining the required GPA in these four courses.

    Freshmen:  2.5                   Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors:  2.7

• Attending school every day and accepting personal accountability in meeting both Upward Bound and school expectations.

• Completing required college, career, and scholarship research.
