Alumni Update One of the most special parts of being a member of a group like Upward Bound are the friendships that you make during your time in the program. Sometimes, however, people lose touch. Let's not let that happen! Click here to update your information in our database so we can keep up with you! Where are they now? Tim E. Sizemore (Leslie County/Class of 2000). Tim attended Hazard Community College for two years before transferring to Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, graduating in May of 2005. Today, Tim serves as the Lead Admissions Counselor and the Transfer Counselor at Union College. Tim completed his Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership/Principalship in July 2007 at Union. Christa Michelle (Stidham) Stevens (Leslie County/Class of 2002). Christa is presently attending Hazard Community College. She now enjoys spending time with her husband David and 2 year old wonderful daughter Emma Leigh. Christa said, "I wished that her experience in the Upward Bound Program could have been a little longer lived but that she really enjoyed the time she did spend with the Union College Upward Bound Program". Sonya Renee Asher (Clay County/Class of 2002). Sonya graduated from Alice Lloyd College on May 13, 2006 with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. Sonya is currently working as a Physical Therapy Tech at Mountain Physical Therapy located in Manchester, Ky. Sonya will be attending East Tennessee State University in January of this year to enter the Physical Therapy Program. Ashley Nicole Jackson (Red Bird Mission/Class of 2005). After graduating from Red Bird Mission with honors, Ashley received a scholarship to Hazard Community College where she is presently in attendance. Ashley enjoys traveling, seeing movies, surfing the internet and spending time with her boyfriend Chris. Ashley also enjoys spending time with her two Great Perinese dogs, Chopper and Sadie. Alison Nicole Broughton (Barbourville/Class of 2006). Alison is presently a student at Eastern Kentucky University. While attending EKU in her pursuit of a degree in Emergency Medical Care, Alison serves as a Secretary in the Office of Tricia Davis, the Director of the EKU Interpreter Training Program’s Center on Deafness and Hearing Loss. Alison commented that the Upward Bound Program was well worth the time she spent in it. "I gained many friends and many unforgettable memories. If I could have changed one thing it would have been to participate in the Summer Bridge Program". Sherrie Lee Maggard (Leslie County/Class of 2005). Sherrie was a four year participant in the Upward Bound Program. Sherrie also participated in the Bridge Program (Summer of 2005). Sherrie is presently attending Lees Junior College in Jackson, Kentucky where she plans to graduate with a Business major in 2008. She is presently serving as a Resident Assistant for Meteer Hall. Beth Ann Poynter (Leslie County/Class of 2004). Beth Ann was a three year participant in the Upward Bound Program. Beth Ann was a member of the Summer Bridge Program in 2004. Beth Ann is presently attending Alice Lloyd College where she is employed as a Student Supervisor. Tiffany Michelle (Hoskins) Smith (Lynn Camp/Class of 2006). Tiffany was a three year participant in the Union College Upward Bound program. Tiffany is now a mother of a son named Noah Smith (8 months) and is married to Harley Smith. In her spare time, Tiffany likes to read and enjoys writing. Tiffany said, "Being in Upward Bound was some of the best years of my life. I made so many friends and got to see places I would have never seen otherwise. Although I wasn't able to attend m Bridge year, I'd strongly recommend any student to become part of the Upward Bound experience". Nathan D. Hall (Leslie County/Class of 2005). Nathan was a three year member of the Upward Bound program and participated in the Bridge program during the Summer of 2005. Nathan is presently enrolled at the University of Kentucky and plans to graduate in May of 2009. Nathan is majoring in Art Studio and is presently employed at Res Net of Lexington. Nathan participates in the Honor Program while at UK and is a regular member of the Dean's List. Nathan enjoys painting, writing music and taking care of his dog (Ami) during his free time. Aleshia Marie (Fredrick) Beverly (Barbourville/Class of 2002). Aleshia was a three year participant in the Union College Upward Bound program and attended Western Kentucky University from 2002-2003. Aleshia is the wife of James W. Beverly and presently resides in Barbourville where she is now employed as a PT Technician at PR Pros. During her free time Aleshia enjoys swimming, exercising, reading, shopping, spending time with family and friends and attending church activities. Aleshia had this to say about Upward Bound, "I think Upward Bound is a great program. I see students come through and work summers at my current job and it's great to see each one. Keep up the good work"! Jamie Leigh Dean (Leslie County/Class of 2007) Jamie was a three year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. Jamie currently attends Hazard Community and Technical College where she is preparing for a career as a Registered Nurse. Jamie plans to receive an Associates Degree in Nursing in May of 2009. Jamie enjoys playing with her dog (Demon) and in her spare time likes to read, go to church, spend time with her friends and goes to the movies. Jamie commented, "Upward Bound is an awesome program to be in while you are in high school. It really helps you prepare for college and you get to meet new people who will become your lifelong friends. My only regret about the program is that I didn't get to attend the summer Bridge component due to the fact that I had to take summer classes at HCTC for the nursing program". Stephen Hibbard (Barbourville/Class of 1997). Stephen graduated in May 2006 from the University of Kentucky with a major in Kinesiology. He currently works as a Youth Case Manager at KCEOC in Barbourville, KY. He is married to Rebecca Liford-Hibbard. Danielle Renee Black (Lynn Camp/Class of 2005). Danielle was a three year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. Danielle currently attends Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY and currently serves as an assistant teacher at ABC Daycare and a server at Cracker Barrel. During her free time, Danielle enjoys playing with her dog Autumn. Danielle had this to say about Upward Bound, "My time with Upward Bound were the best years of my life." Amanda A. Boggs (Owsley County/Class of 2003). Amanda was a four year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2006 with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Math Education. Amanda received her Master's of Art Degree in Secondary Math Education from the University of Kentucky in May 2007 and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Today, Amanda serves as a teacher at East Jessamine high school. In her free time, Amanda enjoys to read. Rebecca Ann Brock (Red Bird Mission/Class of 2004). Rebecca participated in the Upward Bound program at Union College from 2001-2004. She participated in the Bridge Program in the summer of 2004. She presently attends Hazard Community College and plans on majoring in Nursing. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys playing with her ten dogs and one cat and her hobbies include writing songs, fishing, hunting, and reading. Rebecca had this to say about Upward Bound, "I hope everything in the program is going great. UB allowed me to participate in something I'm so proud of and can tell my kids about. I have a lot of great memories." Samantha R. Brock (Leslie County/Class of 2007). Samantha was a three year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. She also was a Bridge Participant in the Summer of 2007. Samantha currently attends Hazard Community College where she is finishing her Associates Degree. She is currently employed as an EMT in Knox County, and plans to enroll in a paramedic course in January. In her spare time, Samantha likes to play with her six dogs, play the guitar, listen to music, watch TV, swim, and snowboard. Samantha had this to say about Upward Bound, "Through my Upward Bound experience I have met and grown to love so many people. It has been such a wonderful experience for me and I will truly miss the program, the participants, and the administration of Upward Bound." Rachel Marie Burkhart (Clay County/Class of 2006). Rachel participated in the Upward Bound program at Union College from 2003-2004. While in high school, she maintained perfect attendance. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys playing with her dog, Blacky. Her hobbies include collecting monkeys, dolphins, key chains, and candles. She also enjoys doing crafts. James Allen Coots (Leslie County/Class of 1998). James was a four year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College and participated in the Bridge component in the Summer of 1998. James graduated from Lexington Community College in 2001. He is currently serving as an Assistant Manager at Citi Financial in Lexington, KY. He is married to the former Angela Lopez and they are expecting their first child in March 2008. In his free time, he enjoys playing with his two boxers, Copper and Shelby. William Colby Faulkner (Knox Central/Class of 2007). William was a two year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. He currently attends Southeast Community College in Middlesboro, KY. During the summer, he serves as a Lifeguard at the Barbourville Water Park. Renae Colleen Goley (Lynn Camp/Class of 2006). Renae was a four year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. She is currently enrolled at the University of the Cumberlands where she is pursuing a major in Biology and plans to graduate in 2010. In her free time, Renae enjoys playing with her cats and dogs, writing, and photography. Emily Ruth Lawson (Lynn Camp/Class of 2002). Emily was a four year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. She also participated in the Bridge component during the Summer of 2002. Emily is currently attending Union College and is pursing a degree in Psychology and plans on graduating in December 2007. While at Union, Emily has received several awards including the Dr. Ron Rosensteil Award two years and the Outstanding Psychology Major Award. While going to school, Emily is working as an Office Manager at Dr. Watkins' Office in Corbin, KY. She is married to Russell Lawson. Nicholas E. Mays (Clay County/Class of 2004). Nicholas was a four year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. He was also a participant of the Bridge program during the Summer of 2004. Nicholas is currently attending Eastern Kentucky University pursing a degree in Secondary English. His anticipated graduation date is May 2009. So far in college, Nicholas has maintained a 4.0 G.P.A. Nicholas had this to say about Upward Bound, "Upward Bound is a very treasured memory of mine. I've made some life-long friends because of the program. I do not truly think that I'd be where I'm at today if not for Upward Bound. Always a true U-Ber!!" Tiffany Michelle (Hoskins) Smith (Lynn Camp/Class of 2006). Tiffany was a three year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. She is currently a homemaker and in her free time enjoys playing with her dog, reading, and writing. She is married to Noah Smith and they have an 8 month old son named Noah. Tiffany had this to say about Upward Bound, "Being in Upward Bound was some of the best years of my life. Although I wasn't able to attend my Bridge year, I'd strongly recommend any student to become part of the UB experience." Paula Denae Mosley (Leslie County/Class of 2007). Paula is currently enrolled at Union College where she is pursuing a major in Education and plans on graduating in May 2011. Paula was a two year participant in the Upward Bound program at Union College. She was a participant of the Bridge program during the summer of 2007. Vernida E. Campbell (Lynn Camp/Class of 2007). Vernida is currently enrolled at Georgetown College where she is pursuing a major in Digital Media. She was a participant in the Bridge program during the summer of 2007. Jonathan S. Wilder (Leslie County/Class of 2002). Jonathan graduated with his Bachelor's degree in May 2007 and is currently a graduate student at Morehead State University where he is pursuing an MBA degree. His anticipated graduation date is 2007. Jonathan had this to say about Upward Bound, "Upward Bound was three of the best summers of my life. It is hard to explain to people who have not been a part of the program how important it is to the people in it." Jason E. Mills (Red Bird Mission/Class of 1995).
