Supplemental Financial Aid
Program
If you are a low income, first generation
college student who has both a federal Pell grant and a
student loan, then you might be eligible to participate in the
TRIO Supplemental Financial Grant Aid Program. Created to help level the playing field for
participating students, the Supplemental Financial Grant Aid Program
provides monies for books and student loan payments if contractual
obligations are met.
For example, if the fall contract requirements
are completed
and turned in on time, then the student's account is credited a
dollar amount to be used to purchase books for the Spring semester. If the contract
is completed in its entirety by the end of the Spring semester,
then the student's account is credited with monies toward student
loan repayment. The amount received depends on student participation. In
essence, the program pays you for your participation in different
events/workshops both on- and off-campus.
New
participants are required to meet with their SSS counselor to
complete intake information including a LASSI assessment and IEP
(Individualized Education Plan). At this time, participants sign
the contract listing the requirements necessary to be eligible for
the supplemental grant aid and are encouraged to begin working on the
necessary tasks as soon as possible.
