Each incoming freshman SSS student is assigned a Peer Mentor to
help them navigate the Union College infrastructure. The
Peer Mentor is a friendly face in the crowd who has a vested
interest in the success or failure of the participant. While
providing personalized support, the Peer Mentor assists the
freshman as he or she adjusts to college life and provides a
one-stop information hotline of where to go and who to see as
situations arise during the semester. Part of the freshman
seminar program, Peer

2007 Union College Peer Mentors:
Chris Stunson, Anthony Coote, Brooke Smith, Cassandra Ammerman,
Chevelle Jones, Brandy Ledger, Michael Ealy, Brooke Vinovich,
Carrie Bistline, Stephanie Pateman and Marlee Cooper.
Mentor's not only serve as quasi-teaching assistants
to the freshman seminar instructors, but they also meet with the
students individually once every two weeks in order to provide
continuous support as the semester progresses.
These peer mentors have successfully navigated their first years
at college and as peers, their opinions and experiences carry
weight with the incoming freshmen. The idea behind the
program is that the incoming freshman will learn from the PM's
experiences. PM's are chosen based on their maturity,
leadership ability, and personality.
