All
current students, faculty, and staff members have the privilege of
bring motorized vehicles on campus. These vehicles must be parked
within specifically designated areas. A map of our parking areas
is available at the safety office.
All
vehicles must display a current parking permit decal on the rear
view mirror. Permit decals may be obtained free from the safety
office by completing the registration form. The license plate
number of each vehicle you will be using to come on campus must be
registered with the campus Safety Office. Campus members may not
park on campus unless there plate number has been recorded. A
change of vehicle information must be reported to the Safety
Office immediately. The parking privilege is limited to those
periods directly related to class attendance and campus
activities; disabled vehicles are to be reported to the Safety
Office. Students may park on campus only during the school session
for which they are registered.
The
College provides parking areas at the owner’s risk. Union College
is not liable for any damage that may occur while a vehicle is on
campus.
The owner
of a vehicle is responsible for violations committed by anyone
borrowing his or her vehicle.
Parking
privileges will be withdrawn for any vehicle used to transport
illicit substances or stolen property on/off campus. Withdrawal of
parking privileges and other penalties may apply to anyone driving
recklessly or carelessly. Driving over curbs, lawns, or sidewalks
is prohibited. Blocking fire hydrants, drives, entrances, refuse
containers, loading docks, fire lanes, safety access areas, or
other vehicles is prohibited.
Motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, or vehicles containing gasoline,
oil, or other flammable substances are not permitted in the
residence halls or college buildings.
The College provides designated parking spaces for handicapped
persons. To park in these spaces individuals will need to have a
state issued handicapped decal. A person who is temporarily
disabled may apply for a campus handicapped decal by presenting a
medical statement to the Safety Office.
Any
student who receives their third citation will receive a warning
letter from the Safety Team Leader concerning future
sanctions. In the case of a faculty member this will come from the
Vice President for Academic Affairs, and for staff members from
their supervisor.
Campus
members who exceed six citations per academic year will have
their parking privileges suspended for a period of sixty days by
the Campus Safety Department. Persons found on campus while this
suspension is in effect could have their privileges revoked
permanently.
Any
person, whose parking privileges have been suspended and are found
back on campus, will also have a vehicle boot immobilizer placed
on their vehicle. You will required to sign a statement of charges
for a $100. 00 fine before the boot will be removed. This charge
must be paid to the business office within three business days or
further action will be taken. This could include withholding
transcripts or baring further registration. Persons attempting to
remove the boot themselves could be charged with damaging College
property.
The
College reserves the right to have any vehicle towed. This is an
alternative the College would prefer to avoid. However, any
vehicle that is found to be interfering with College activities,
safety access, or delivery of good or services is subject to
immediate towing at the owners expense.
