Union College is a relatively safe and secure campus and community environment in which to attend classes and/or work. However, crimes do occur and it is necessary to provide you with the following policies, recommendations, and information regarding your personal safety and the security of your possessions while you are on our campus.

Union College employs and trains its own Safety Team Members. Safety Team Members are on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, should you need information regarding your personal safety and/or security, you are encouraged to call Mr. Michael Gray (Coordinator of Campus Safety)  at campus extension 1604. Or, if you prefer, you may contact the Team Member on duty by calling 546-1390 or campus extension 1390.

In general, campus buildings are open for your use Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Many of the buildings and classrooms are not open on Saturdays and Sundays except for special events.

For the safety of our students, residence halls are locked at all times and only students who live in each hall have access. Visitation hours and the policy concerning visitation can be found in your student handbook.

If you observe or are told of a crime of any nature, you are strongly urged to report it at once to the Safety Team Member on duty.

If you are a victim of theft or vandalism in your residence hall, report it at once to your Residence Hall Director or Resident Assistant. They will make a concerted effort to help you as much as they are able too. However, you have the main responsibility to safeguard your possessions by keeping them locked up and by locking your room when you are out. It is also helpful to label items and make note of serial numbers for future identification.

NO student or employee is to bring any alcoholic beverage or illegal drugs to the campus.

Possession, use or sale of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs will result in immediate dismissal.

Firearms, air/gas guns, and fireworks of any kind are forbidden in the residence halls or on campus. All weapons must be surrendered to the Dean of Students. The College reserves the right to confiscate firearms and fireworks and may levy a fine for release of firearms at the close of a school year. Firearm and fire code violations are viewed as major violations.

Time is devoted in student orientation and in employee interviews explaining the position that Union College takes regarding these policies.
