QEP Meeting 1

May 19, 2005

Committee members present:

Janet Tarry, Andelys Wood, Lynn Lockard, Debra Morrissey, Debbie D’Anna, Carol Clouse, Melissa Garrett, Duane Shuttlesworth, Jackie Woodbury, Joni Caldwell.

Committee setup:

Meet once a week, discussed timeline and calendar of weekly actions distributed

Assessment and QEP coordination needs to occur, common committee members have been assigned – assessment results used as action items for QEP.

Recommended background reading:

4. SACs Assessment of QEP (April 2005 Report to Union) by D. Shuttlesworth

Items discussed:

· QEP needs to be expanded to include wide variety of students, not just EDUC students - Praxis exposed problem of a campus wide issue

· Recommendation of Administrative oversight by President deRosset and Dr McFarland

· Discussed possible need for a Consultant

· Literature/Model search

• Find similar schools and topics (reading, writing, math) recently accredited and summarize
• Received list of SACs accreditated schools, school divided between committee members
• Look at SACs website for additional resources www.sacscoc.org
• Find: “Proceedings of SACs conference” does the college receive this document and where can we get copies?
• This will lead to other areas to explore

· Need to get list of all assessments done on campus. Assessment committee members will coordinate getting this list.

· QEP theme – student basic skills

• use Praxis, ACT, current general education assessment, entrance exam, course grades

· Need student involvement : Debbie D’Anna will contact students about participation in planning

· Differential retention rates – transfer vs Union freshmen. Current analysis shows no correlation.

Each member is to complete a search of assigned colleges. Look for QEP model, summarize and bring ideas to be used
