Spring Service Trip
Spring Service Trip is completely planned by the sophomore class, right down to where we eat. Students learn time management, scheduling, team work and delegation. The trip takes place in January, over the weekend of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
2009
This year the sophomore class chose to take us to Atlanta, GA. Because of this, a freedom rally was one of our events that we attended, held at Morehouse Medical School. Along with taking in the sights and sounds of the big city, we also went to a few service sites. As one group, we worked with the organization, Books for Africa. There we unloaded, sorted and packed up books to be sent over the the different countries in Africa. Last year the organization shipped between 2 and 3 million books.
We also worked with the organization Hands on Atlanta that had service sites all over the city. We split up and did double duty. One group went to the inner city and cleaned up a yard for an elderly woman who runs a museum out of her home. The second group went to North Atlanta and cleaned up an outdoor Theatre.
