You only get one chance to make a good first
impression.
When you walk into a job interview the way you look
counts. Before you say one word, the intervie wer has made a judgment
call on you based completely on your appearance.
Will your look say “I am confident and prepared” or
“I just rolled out of bed?” If you want to project confidence, you need
to know the basics!
It makes sense to think about items in your own
closet that can do double-time as interview wear. Any light colored
blouses or button-downs and neutral colored slacks can double as career
pieces. Make the most of your existing wardrobe by searching for pieces
that will enhance what you already own. Clothing is expensive. Business clothes are no exception. On
average, a nice business suit at a retail outlet can cost more than $100
unless you are lucky enough to find something on sale.
The Office of Career Planning and Placement is developing a “Career Closet” for student use. This
closet will have donated and purchased interview appropriate clothing
available for students to use for job interview success. So instead of
worrying about coming up with the money to get an outfit, you can
concentrate on company research and interview preparation.
Many thanks to supportive local retailers,
especially The Fashion Gallery Outlet Store for their kind
donation of clothing for the Fashion Show
(click here for pictures!!!) and the Career Closet and to
the Corbin Walmart Supercenter for their kind donation of a $75
gift card to purchase accessories as needed. But remember, we need all
sizes, colors, and styles – so please consider donating your gently used
career clothing to the closet. Contact Lee Angel at
langel@unionky.edu for more
information!
